This image was taken at Chobe National Park in Botswana during our safari. The area is home to diverse wildlife, including large prides of lions (up to 30 per pride), and over 90,000 elephants. There are several distinct areas within the region (you can see this in some of my other posts), but the underlying theme when we were there though was that it was extremely hot and dry. A river used to run through the area, which went dry due to tectonic activity. The area in this image used to be a marsh, and the tree in this image appears almost preserved, as it was waterlogged at some point and as such died. There are several such trees in this old marsh area, which made for some interesting scenery, and added to the diverse range of landscapes in the area.

Awesome picture! It gives you chills to think that not too far from where this photo was taken the ancestors of man began walking on two legs, began using rocks and branches as tools...if only the trees, rocks, earth could tell of the things they've seen! Great photo! Your work is going on my desk top!....and ya got a 10 from me!

What a fascinating picture and thank you so much for the explanation. Seems sad that a river can just disappear like that.. especially with so much life dependent on it. This picture is striking and beautiful.

This is a great shot, well composed, I think it could benefit from a lil increase in the contrast, and being lightened a lil bit. A minor tweak, not a major one, as you wouldn't want to lose the mood you've captured here.

One man sees things and says "why?", but I dream things that never were and say "why not?"

Incredible picture. The tree looks almost like sculpture, nicely done!

Hello Herman...You have captured this tree in a wide open area that is unprotected from the wind which as a result has left it in a beautiful shape. I like trees that have been damaged by lightning or storms these can provide dramatic shapes against the skyline....Well done...All the best...Mick.
