We just had our lawn reseeded and in the area around one tree there is straw for protection. Mrs. Duckie built a nest at the base of the tree in the high grass with the straw. It is very vulnerable to cats and other critters so we feel very protective of this nest. Unfortunately, I still have to be watering the new lawn so I try to keep my time to a minimum because the slightest hint of human intrusion sends her away and she is very cautious about coming back. I expect times to be very tense when the ducklings arrive.

How very delicate this photo is !! What a strange and dangerous place for her to build her nest. Then again I suppose the grass and straw were inviting to her for her little duckies.
I love this photo, its very unusual to see this kind of thing. THe other day we found half a lovely Robins egg...so the birdies must have finally arrived and flown away. That robinsegg blue just cathes the eye..I will try to take a pic of it soon....Its so sweet too, thank you so much for this photo and the nice expression. Also I might give it a good try and do a canvas painting of it soon...;Verena
