What an amazing and rare capture Kim! Yes Jimbob, they do eat 'other' birds. This is a Peregrine Falcon, one of the few birds that preys almost exclusively on other birds. These birds hunt by diving from high altitudes, sometimes reaching speeds above 200 MPH! I was lucky enough to witness this once a few years ago in a downtown park - I heard a screech, and looked up just in time to see the feathers fly as it smashed into a pigeon. I commented to some strangers nearby, and they looked at me like I was crazy. I guess they didn't appreciate the wonder of nature as much as I did. Thank you for posting this, it brought back a great memory!
Truly a wonderful action capture Kim of this beautiful bird of prey. To answer Jimbob's question....yes they do eat other birds, I've seen this happen on our street
Sorry I'm so far behind on my comments and responses - I've been working on part of a 900+ photo project from last summer. It is the cycle of life you've captured here, Kim. A bit pixelated but I'm sure the low light, distance from the action, and the cold had a lot to do with that. It doesn't detract from the shot, however, this type of photo a difficult and rare capture under any circumstance. Good job.
