This is a picture of the mature berries of the common pokeweed, showing the vivid colors of the fruit and stems. Despite toxic qualities which can be harmful to humans, the leaves of young plants are eaten as a prepared dish known as poke salit or poke salad (thus the title of the Tony Joe White song "Poke Salad Annie").
