Captured this last Sunday (2018, 08-12) after church. My husband & I go down to the waterfront/boardwalk to our coffee.
They were doing Military Exercises across the way out of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Flying in and out of smoke (the smoke was controlled) also picking up containers then taking them further away. The Coast Guards were there in the boat keeping close eyes on the action & smoke. This went on for hours.
I know this is not the best but thought it was interesting.

An interesting and nice action shot. With fires this summer in many places I suppose they are practising flying into and out of the smoke.

This is such good practice for the kind of summer they are having out west and in western Canada - the smoke is even affecting our air here in the Chicago area. Really interesting Pat.

Pat, it's always an impressive sight when these 'Chinook' helicopters are performing their operations. Think however that not only the smoke was visible. I suppose that it's a mix with both smoke and the by the 'choppers' caused 'downwash'.
Very interesting action shot. Given the difficult photographic conditions, you've achieved the best possible result, my friend!
PS: recently I've captured a Dutch Chinook while performing a fire extinguishing exercise. I'll post it later.
