Hi Everyone,

We were on a cruise on the Carnival Sunrise to Bermuda during hurricane season. Did not get there because a hurricane did come, but we almost got there, but the seas were getting to rough.

Anyway while on our return to Brooklyn, New York the captain came on and said there was a necessary Medial Rescue for one of the employees. The swells of the ocean was 18ft and higher, during this time the employee had a bad break, where heavy equipment fell on him.

So the US Coast Guard told the Captain of the ship to bring the ship towards land at top speed. So once we got into US waters the US Coast Guard Helicopter came and was just above out balcony and they paced the ship perfectly and of course I grabbed my camera and took lots of pictures of the rescue.

This happened on: 2019, 09-26 (Thursday PM). I totally Admire the US Coast Guard for their services and boy the pilot was amazing at keeping the same speed as the ship, wow. This rescue took around 40 minutes.

Thank you for your time and comments, deeply appreciated.

Have a Great Day, Skates

PS: We are expecting 10cm/4in of the white stuff tomorrow. yuck, here we go again.

You were at the right time there to take these action photos. As a long served captain I know how bad it is when a crew member is injured at sea.
Good work with the camera here Pat. Hope all went well for the injured crew member.

Great coverage of the action. I can relate to this. I had a similar experience. Except I was the guy hanging on a cable from the helicopter. I was being evacuated from a mountain after a skiing crash in Innsbruck, Austria. That was many years ago. A little pain but no permanent damage. It certainly messed up my vacation though.

Pat, this is a great action shot. I agree with you that the US Coast Guard has done a perfect SAR (Search And Rescue) action. This is valid for the SAR teams all over the world. Courage and expertise are their keywords. Think I know where I'm talking about, because I've experienced (as viewer) in my former career some SAR actions. One of these actions still gives me a shiver: a crew member was told that his daughter had died due to a traffic accident. His arrival there was urgently needed. A SAR team came with their helicopter to pick him up to take him on shore so that he could fly home (with the support of the consul there).
Thanks for this great post, my friend!
