I was kind of surprised when this little scorpion emerged from a piece of washed up coral. I splashed a little water on him so he wouldn't run away, and while he was sunning himself, snapped a few macro shots. Taken on Ixtapa Island, MX.

This reminds me of the time a young man who had been on a trek through the Amazon rainforest brought me back two enormous beetles, big as a child's fist, framed. I stammered something about beautiful, and he exclaimed, vehemently, if tritely, "Everything is beautiful in it's own way!"

Yes, that's true. I suppose even a scorpion is beautiful in its own way, along with everything else God has made. He just hasn't, so far, given me the eyes to see it!

But your picture goes a long way toward that end. It's excellent. Thank you.

I could be wrong, but I think you're our first live scorpion. My dad tells stories of them coming down the fireplace into the log cabin they lived in. Nasty little bug, good shot of it.
