This is a cluster of gourds used as birdhouses by Purple Martins. This shot was taken at the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. There were eight nesting arrays. They stand approximately 10-12 feet in height. The Purple Martins will return to this nesting area in the Summer. I have provided this link for additional information on the refuge. www.fws.gov/northeast/forsythe/

Very interesting shot. They looks like they might be a Disney creation for a movie. I love your angle for this, and the clarity is perfect. Nice work, Laura.

They will go out of their gourd when they return Laura.
What a cool looking complex they have to raise their young.

Very unusual and interesting Laura. It would be nice to get a photo of this when the birds are active again.

That is a very sophisticated purple martin residence Laura. Great shot - will we get to see birds around it next summer?

A good shot of the bird condos and nice angle in the photo. I see they even have them numbered so the mail gets delivered to the right address. Judging from all the antennae they get great radio reception.
