Here's a brief description of Kirby's Mill - notice that the original millstones are in the foreground. Kirby's Mill is a historic grist mill in Medford, Burlington County, New Jersey, United States. Originally known as Haines Mill, it was built in 1778 by Isaac Haines and partners along the Southwest Branch of Rancocas Creek. It was the last commercial operating mill in New Jersey. The mill produced wheat, buckwheat and rye flour, cornmeal and chicken feed. The sawmill produced lumber for the mid-Atlantic region into the 20th century. Kirby's Mill is currently owned by the Medford Historical Society. The mill has been entered in the National Register of Historic Places in the United States. The society is working to restore the mill, which is part of a museum complex that includes a country store, milliner's shop, print shop, carpenter shop, working blacksmith shop and sawmill. The museum is open during special events which include an art show in the summer and an apple festival in October. A very nice place to visit - hope you like it - Enjoy!!!!!!

Laura, I know pretty much about our Dutch traditional windmills, but I know little of American mills. So I'm curious how the millstones were powered, because this mill was built in already 1778, so electric motors aren't an option. Remains millstones driven by conventional engines or hydro-powered ones? Think it's the latter because the mill was built adjacent to a creek.

Both a very interesting and good image and narrative. Perfectly done my friend!

Beautiful and historical shot Laura - I hope they succeed with the restoration as we lose too many things in this country that are of cultural significance.
