The monarch butterflies that is - the goldenrod is in full bloom and in previous years I have seen monarchs fueling up for their long journey to Mexico - I really haven't seen as many this summer/fall - their numbers do vary from year to year - I think the goldenrod looks lovely against the background of the historic Quaker Meeting House - Kindly Enjoy!!!

I agree Laura I didn't see nearly as many butterflies this year as last - lovely shot of the beautiful goldenrod.

Last year we raised 5 beautiful monarchs and happily sent them on their journey - looking forward to a new beginning in 2021.

---Where Are They?---

Laura, we don't have Monarch's on the other side of the big pond, but I think to see the same trend here when it comes to our European butterflies.
A couple of years ago, my (late wife's) garden was crowded with butterflies, so it was very easy to provide our Caedes-friends with a butterfly series, but this year I was able to count their number on the fingers of one hand.
Your goldenrod image is a good compensation for this lack. Very well done, 👍 !

Our country can only have one monarch at a time Laura. Just kidding, my weak attempt at a little humor for you.
It's been like that for years in my part of the world. Many people blame the pesticides currently being used.
Let's hope it is just a outlier and they will return.
Looking at your photo, they don't know what they are missing.
Beautiful photo.

There can be quite a few reasons for the absence of the monarchs Laura. Weather is one and pollution another. You are right about the goldenrod against that background.

Beautiful capture here, we have seen more monarchs this year than usual. We have a lot of folks planting milkweed seeds these last two years, as that is one their favorites around this area.
