This is the quarry in Llanberis that I posted in my "whats down there" post. Its hard to show the height of the rocks, but the trees are full size that you see. To the left about half way down the rock you can see a mine opening into the quarry, it used to be a very active quarry. Thank you so much for looking.

The slate quarries and the spoil heaps in and around Llanberis are breathtaking. They remind me of early episodes of Dr Who, as virtually any bleak, alien landscape was filmed in a slate quarry.A fantastic and dramatic picture.

Almost looks like an Iceburg with trees. Now that's taking this global warming thing a little too far. Great shot and your explanation more than gave me a sense of depth. The trees really add needed color to shot. Very good post and a good idea.

There is still enough slate for a great many roofs in there :)
It is a very majestic site - and the magnitude of the cliffs is so apparent from the trees.
Splendid shot Jo
Do you think slate has a smell? I used to get laughed at when I said I liked it :) Mind you, those cousins of mine used to laugh at me a lot !

We have lots of granite quarries around here, notably one that I used to go to when I was little, but I've gotten bigger and so has it!!

This is a very interesting photo and I'm glad that the trees give us the sense of how large this really is!!

Hello Jo...Cracking capture of the old quarry....The angle you photographed this is perfect...Gives the viewers some idea the dangerous work it was to quarry the slate so that we can stay dry in our homes...Well done...All the best....Mick.
