This is in Betws Y Coed as well. I have always loved this house and thought it anything but ugly. Here is the legend of the house.

Many many years ago back in the mist of time and legend, there were two outlaw brothers who staked a claim to some land just outside Betws. ( pronounced Bet ooze )After some days the land owner realised that he had these outlaws on his land and tried to evict them. BUT under the law of the land at the time, the law stated that if you could build a house between sunset and sunrise, make sure it has walls a roof and the last condition was that it had to have smoke coming out of a chimney... the land and house was yours. The two brothers worked through the night, in complete darkness as the moon couldnt penetrate the forest around the house. The landowner arrived at sunrise to evict the brothers, but there was the house with smoke rising from the chimney and curling through the trees. Thwarted he had to allow the brothers to stay. The house is called Ugly as they couldnt see what they were doing, but I have always loved it. The right hand side of the cottage where the chimney is, bulges out so much I dont know how it stays up.

Hope you like some of my favourite places hidden away in North Wales xxxxx

They must have had strong backs BC. I imagine it has been slightly remodeled over the years but it is "anything but ugly."
Great shot and story.

Absolutely the most fairy-talish, charming and historical looking "ugly" house in your part of the world ...
Thanks for the story, dear Jo.

Hello Jo....This a very good closeup showing so much detail in this lovely cottage...Who-ever built the cottage must have just used the rock that were closeby....Very interesting story.....Well done....All the very best to you Jo.....Mick.

What an interesting history - I like the shadows - they give it a very mysterious look.
Does not look a bit ugly to me.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Ugly or beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. It's different but a bad storm wouldn't knock it down. Great shot

Anything but ugly. It screams folk art. And I would love it setting on my property. Nice find Jo.
