In 1962, London Bridge was falling down. Built in 1831, the bridge couldn't handle the ever-increasing flow of traffic across the Thames River. The British government decided to put the bridge up for sale, and Robert McCulloch, Founder of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, and Chairman of McCulloch Oil Corporation, submitted the winning bid of $2,460,000. The bridge was dismantled, and each stone was numbered. Everything was shipped 10,000 miles to Long Beach, California, and then trucked to Lake Havasu City.

So THIS is where it got to. You know the story of this bridge is legendary here. According to legend (it's not true) the guy who bought it thought he was getting Tower Bridge and was bitterly disappointed. Great shot of it here, the light's great and the sky and water just perfect. Seems funny to think of this old landmark re-built away from London's hustle and bustle.

I had heard that story too that the person that bought it thought they were getting Tower Bridge - DOH! A Fabulous picture here indeed, and brilliant composition.

Well, after all these years, I always regretted not going to see the London Bridge when I lived in Arizona, and I was under the misconception that it was the tower bridge that was rebuilt! That's one more thing I can cross off my list!

Lovely shot, and thanks for the education.

Thankyou for the history and the post. I seen it in the vb and rated it very high. I really like the colors and angles you used.
