playing with DOF, could have had a greater DOF but I found the detail in the bubbles in the glass too distracting. I liked better the pits and scratches in the rings plus their reflections though the finest detail is lost by jpg'ing :( fortunately this is only noticable if you zoom in extreemly closely :) f7.1 1/60 iso100 70mm, handheld some sharpening and curves applied at raw stage apart from that merley cropped to 4x3 from the original 3x2

Hmm....ok, not to be mean or anything but, how many times have you uploaded this?? I've voted on this in the random voting at least twice that I remember of, they all turn out looking the same, what are you doing differently in each one?

sorry for the re uploads
but something very weird was happening
i was uploading a 1600x1200 at 420kBytes with a particular level of compression that mostly retained the scratches on the 5 rings hard enough to retain at that compression level but when i came to review it by re downloading it it came down each time for me and several other ppl as a 100kBytes jpg with most of that detail artifacted away ... i thought id done something wrong at my end so i tried again, same thing happened

turns out i think that the server is recompressing them, and for me that ruins the whole point of this pic ie the finest detail, its a shame cos i quite liked this pic myself and thats why i wanted to show it

sorry

Hm... I was just thinking the same that was stated above... As for the re-compression on-site that is sadly a problem in some cases. On the bright side you can submit quite large uncompressed files if you want and have the bandwidth. In some cases (but not all) this can solve the problem.
