This building was built back in the early to mid 1860's on Rock Island and is home to the Corps of Engineers now. The archway in the center of the building was once open and used to drive horse & buggys through. On the face of the clock you will see small round openings which are actually small porthole windows. To see a photo gallery and brochure on this building use this LINK.

Wow, nice history and nicer photo, Dan. I love hearing bits of history about places I never knew existed in my very own country. Think I caught it from my father who was an American Historian who loved people history, stuff we never read in the school books. So thanks.

It is a lovely building and a great pic of it. The only problem I have is the white sky. Maybe you can go there again, with the sun in your back? Would be a 10/10 pic, I am sure, so It is only 7 or 8.

Yes I agree Sabine! No sun to speak of that day however. Maybe someday I'll get a second chance at it! C):-)

I love that clock with the four stars on it. Can you go up the tower and look out from up there as the pictures show a view from the window? The colors here are very deep and clear, especially that red auto and the green trees. Nice clear shot of this building. That seems rather modern looking for 1860s, but it looks like it was built to last.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

I agree with Cindy that the colors are deep and true, and now fess up, Sheriff...you know how to put a deeper blue sky up there :) If not, you know where I am ::LOL:: Thanks for the link to the web site.
