A restored "chuck wagon" of the kind used in cattle drives and wagon trains. Usually the cook would go ahead to a pre
determined spot, get a fire going and start cooking the meal.

I bet they knew when they were getting close to the campsite from the delicious smells wafting in the air of his good cooking. They look prepared to fix just about anything here.Ah, the good old days. Very nice post cowboy Dan.
Well, it looks like a well equipped kitchen for those times and conditions. I wonder what kinds of things they cooked up at the campfire then. I suppose they must have carried some stock and essentials and grabbed a few fish or rabbits or whatever en route. It looks like a very cleaned up kitchen too. This is really neat. I love the bright, clear shots you have been posting from this wonderful event, Dan.
You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being.

I bet the smell of the Charles wagon was especially inviting if one was riding drag all day. In most western movies, the cook gets killed in a stampede at the end of the show, and it's not from drovers beating a path to his wagon. Evidently his cooking wasn't always that good. You've done excellent job of displaying and explaining shot to everyone. Good post Mr. Dillon.

My lard's all mixed up...my flour's a mess and my sourdough has definitely had the air punched out of it...I can't imagine how these culinary experts ever survived out in the wild..and I suppose it is no different from today..from town to town and restaurant to restaurant, unless you devote yourself to the fast food spots, you get what the locals can cook up..
I'm in the chow line, Sheriff.. I need a cuppa Joe...

sounds like good organisation to me! ...thinking ahead of how I can get someone to prepare my meal in advance! lol! nice capture Daniel - very intesting seeing how people lived!
