This is a Orange Julia Butterfly. I went to the Wings of Paradise Butterfly Conservatory a couple of weeks ago.. What a pretty place! I did not know what to expect. I did think that having all the butterflies there that it would be so easy to get some shots. Well it certainly is not easy by any means. The real big difference between outside and the conservatory is that you know that you can see more butterflies at the conservatory. This lady was very hard to get a picture of. They did not sit long enough on a flower or anywhere for that matter. Persistence paid off this time. This was taken with my nifty 50 lens as people call them. The telephoto lens ( I dont have a macro - dream lens someday) just did not cut it and I was taking a big chance with the nifty 50 but I got lucky. This is straight from the camera other than a crop.

Well, your nifty 50 seemed to handle this job just perfectly....there's always a perfect lens for the job..you just have to carry them all ::LOL:: This is a show stopper and I saw it in the voting booth and it made a huge impression on me even in the 1024x728 size they give you to look at, but full blown it's a knock out..great job and you bet I saved this one in my butterflies and birds fave folder. thanks for your persistence :)

I love butterflies. I do not think I have seen this one before. What a beautiful orange. The thumbnail did not do it justice. The download was awesome.

Glad you were patient! This is unreal! At our butterfly house we can't use a tripod. Were you able to? This is so clear! Great color on the butterfly and the flowers.

Very well done Ruby. Such nice colour to this one..and great detail. Butterflies take an awful lot of patience to capture on camera. You have to be very still and sometimes if you see one on flower and flies away...wait as it might come back to same flower...gerry
