This is a Mayan Sink Hole in Chichen Itza in Mexico. Mayans used to throw jewelery as praise to the gods into this and there is a myth saying they used to throw girls into it. I took this picture in April 2007.

wow ... that's really cool ... we had a few small sink holes like that in NH, but we didn't sacrifice anyone in it ... unless they really deserved it :) nice pic!

Nice capture of a cenote. A bit over exposed, I think, and the sky is blown. Looks like you took this in very bright sunlight, and it is hard to get a good exposure in those conditions. Thanks for sharing an image of something that many will never get to see otherwise.

BTW. I reworked it and I think improved it somewhat. PM me if you're interested.

With the bright areas and shaded areas, looks like this would have been a prime candidate for the HDR technique.
