Good shot with a strange insect. But I think it would be more clearly if the background had a little different colour, the subject isn't that clear itself.

Wow, I always thought they were green. Learn something new everyday. It certainly blends in with this background.

You have a sharp eye - I'm not sure I would have spotted it to start with. Certainly blends in with the background.

Praying mantis are one of my favorite bugs because it's easy to anthropomorphize them. We found one behind our barracks while I was stationed in Japan (about 35 years ago - the bug's probably dead by now ;^>) and we kept him as a pet. We could bring him out of his cage and place him in our hand (I think he liked the warmth). When we moved our fingers past him he'd rotate that weird triangular head and lift his arms in recognition. And I agree, you were lucky to spot him with that golden background.
