Shot in Yellowstone Park. The steam at the bottom of the image is from a small geyser. I thought this image brought on a serene setting reminiscent of Africa. Thanks in advance for your comments, good or bad.

G'day Robert,
This shot definitely does have a savannah feel to it, nice call. I think compositionally, as "tried and true" as this sounds, putting the river further down the image so it sits nearer the "one third line" would probably lift the balance a bit. Obviously I have no idea what was to the left and right of this shot but the strong left to right lines in this image make me think it would feel even more powerful at a wider aspect ratio. The angled line of the river really lifts the whole thing to.

Love the buffalo in the shot! It's a very nice scene with a nice feel of depth and distance. Also serenity, as you said.

A peaceful, staid frontier image...I like the feel.

To experiment with composition, what do you think of a crop including the top and right 3/4's or so of the image, resolution permitting?

I might also experiment with the border -- toning it down to something more like the darker tones in the pines...

Thanks for this post, Robert!
