Beaufort, South Carolina, USA. Live Oak trees, named as such because they always have leaves, shedding old ones year round, while new ones grow in, can live for hundreds of years. Such is the case with this one in historic Beaufort, which after several hundred years has gotten quite large. (My wife stands nearby for perspective.) And, this is not the oldest or largest in the town. Enjoy!

A stunning looking tree, Thad. We have nothing like that in the U.K. Also, having your good lady in the shot gives a sense of proportion.

I love those Live Oaks Thad. I always think of Gone With The Wind when I see one. Your wife seems to be enjoying herself.

Good post.

Either she is very little or that is one MASSIVE tree - I know it's the latter - I had no idea they were that large.

I have never seen one of these! Thank you for sharing this magnificent tree. This really makes you think of the old South. I will be expecting Miss Scarlett and Mr. Rhett coming riding up soon.

Very nice capture, looks like a painting though, still it looks very beautiful. Great colors as well.

You have presented the Live Oak it all it's glory and I agree it is a beautiful tree. The downside is when you have them near your house, it is a constant clean-up process.
We have a Live Oak in Orlando, FL near our home that is aptly named the "Senator" that is reported to be 600 years old.

We have tons of live oaks around here, Thad, with probably the same moss growing on them. Sometimes there's some mistletoe too. You found a beauty for this photo. Well done. Beautiful colors. Nature at its finest. But the folks above are correct. They make a heck of a mess.
