Beaufort, South Carolina, USA. The Joseph Johnson House was completed in 1861. Occupying a full block of the town, with 79 windows, its 12,000 square feet of floor space gives it plenty of room for a large family. Because Beaufort was held by the Union Army during the Civil War, this house was used as a hospital. After the war, Dr. Johnson reacquired the house by paying the $2,000 in back taxes. Surrounded by azaleas and camellias, it is partially hidden by the very old Live Oak. Enjoy the southern aristocratic charm!

That's one heck of a tree in front there. Gorgeous HDR again, Thad. The house looks like a real tourist attraction.

Thad...I don't know. It seems that all of your southern photos are either cluttered with tourists or have a huge tree blocking the view. When I go on vacation, I always take along a chain saw for the trees and an Uzi for the tourists. ;-)

That is a gigantic. If that house were in San Luis Obispo, there'd be 4000 Cal Poly students living in it. Beautiful work once again.

Exactly how I picture the South, Thad. It could be Tara from Gone With The Wind.

Normally such an oak tree will be an obstruction but in this case it seems to add a lot to the beauty of the scene. Another fine home well captured, Thad.

I like the way you have the trees in front and glimpse the "castle" through the trees. An amazing look at history. Nice photo. Fran

It must be a Banyan tree you have there infront. It's blocking the beauty of your main subject, Thad. Anyway the capture is well composed however though the title must have been different.
