Alaska - Denali National Park. While on the Tundra Wilderness Tour, three large bull moose crossed our path, with this biggest one leading the group. Enjoy! EXIF: ISO 200, 1/125, f8.0, 400 MM, hand-held, panning. View Full Screen.

It looks like he has lost part of his snout, Thad. There surely is a flying squirrel around there somewhere. A little soft of the focus but definitely a good capture.

A nice capture of the moose, Thad. Nice clarity and details in the antlers.

Nice shot of the antlers still in velvet. There is a big problem in some areas of Alaska with wolves killing off the Moose populations, much as they are killing off the elk, bison, and deer populations in Yellowstone.

I was first on the scene last night but was called away from my computer by more important matters. You might ask, "What could be more important than commenting on my posting?" To tell you the truth, I can't remember what it was; so how important could it possibly have been.

I am struck by the beauty of this fellow. Wonderful colors and good (but not great) focus and clarity. I imagine taking a photo of this moose involved the use of a telephoto lens unless you're as nuts as me, and I'm relatively sure you're way below my category of nuts. I'm intrigued by the foliage around this guy. The background foliage is blurred beautifully indicating a good DoF, but I'm mystified by the foliage by his nose since he doesn't appear to be eating. I assume he didn't step out in the open and pose for you.

I understand that you could try a less candid approach by yelling, "Hey, Bullwinkle...over here." I've also heard that spraying yourself liberally with female moose urine can make for more up close and personal photo opportunities.

Nice shot.
