Denali National Park, Alaska, USA. In the sub-arctic land area, elevation changes result in dramatic differences in plant and animal habitat. The trees, seen in the foreground, that are from fifty to one hundred years old, are small and stunted because of permafrost requiring shallow root systems, in addition to the long, harsh winter conditions. However the shrub growth surrounding them are vital to the animals that live here. In the distance is tundra growth, then elevations leading to no plant growth. The mountains seen here are in the six to seven thousand foot elevation range. Enjoy!

Thad...I'm sorry that I don't have the time to comment on all your postings. I have about 40 comments left to go tonight; so I'm picking and choosing the images that strike my fancy. My fancy what you might ask, yet I don't have an answer.

Your narrative reminds me of the my life as a student. You must have been a teacher to explain the changes in biodiversity at various elevations. I'm guessing geography, biology or botany. Wonderful narrative and a fabulous image.

Your vacation photos always seem to be inspired. Whether we're admiring southern architecture, the rocky coast of Maine or the sheer and complete magnificence of Denali National Park. Your shots sparkle.

This is a brilliant posting. I can't find anything that isn't as close to perfect as possible. The only thing wrong is that I should have taken this.

Some people have Gurus, I have my camera. Through the cam lenses I have learnt to deeply perceive life, not only to see, but to look at all expressions of nature, becoming able to read the poetry of the flowers, receiving the embrace of the trees and flying above the clouds without wings! - Susie Sun
