The backyard of any house in the 1700s would have had a collection of outbuildings. This is one remaining behind the DuBois Fort. I do not know its original purpose, though perhaps it was where one responded to nature. Not far behind this is the Wallkill River.

I wonder if the college still has boat races down the Wallkill. lol This is a very interesting building with the different wood, stone and brick and the green moss on the roof.

Although the half moon or star is missing on the door it does look like an outhouse. Good find and interesting capture Thad.

Seems a bit large for an outhouse but it could be. The different textures came out well.

I wonder why there are red bricks at the front base, maybe because of the deterioration of the old stone work. Amazing detail and textures and wonderful colours, it would be interesting to do some research on what these smaller buildings were used for, but your comment made me chuckle.

From the mighty to the midget!...probably used as gardeners hut!

Great textured pieces in this!...It is almost similar to my old workshop where I made the walking sticks!

Thad, I wouldn't be amazed that it was a kind outdoors lavatory. About till 1800 in my country the lavatory was built outside the house as well (not in the city but just in the countryside, lol). But for the by Raj meant reason think it's not probably. Other buildings outside the house was the bakery on farmyards or big country houses, but I have my doubts about that because of the lack of a small chimney. The third possibility is mentioned already by Bob.

I'm curious if anyone can confirms this or has know an other solution.

Regards, Cornelius.

Wonderful ciontrasting textures and colours Thad - I like the inclusion of the tree trunk.
To me is looks a little large for a 'dunny' (NZ slang) :)

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

If it was an outhouse, I wonder if they dug a tunnel to the river for sewage disposal? lol Whatever it is you did a great job capturing it and the HDR effect did it justice! Thank you Thad! Allen
