Yorktown, Virginia, USA. Franois Joseph Paul, marquis de Grasse Tilly, comte de Grasse led the French naval force that blockaded the York River to prevent the British fleet from bringing supplies and troops to Cornwallis. Some will argue that his fleet's victory was one of the most important in American naval history.

Oyd Player created this sculpture and one of George Washington, standing several feet away on the river walk plaza.

I bet it gets cleaned a lot because of all those birds too!...

Those dastardly French and us Brits have had a few clashes over the years!.....

Good one of a bit of your history again Thad

Thad, his attitude, visualized on this sculpture, tells more than thousand words. It will be there forever as long as the gulls can't do their corrosive work.

Interesting and good capture again.

There is so much history that I have forgotten over the years. Your images and narratives serve as a great refresher course. Excellent angle on this statue, Thad. Nice light and shadows.

Why so blue? You would think a fellow who had just won a great naval battle would be more cheerful. A good close up on the statue, Thad. Nice lighting in the scene and a good DoF in the photo.
