Point Loma, California, USA. Built in 1854-55, it marked the San Diego Harbor entrance, sited at the top Point Loma at an elevation of 400 feet, the highest of any lighthouse in the US. That height proved to be problematic, as fog would enshroud the light, leaving it not visible to ships. In 1891, it was replaced by a newer light, built at a lower elevation. Today, the lighthouse is a museum, restored to the appearance of when the first keeper and his family lived there.
