Everglades National Park, Florida, USA. In a Carolina Skiff, we headed up the Turner River from Everglades City (a misnamed community). This small, flat-bottomed boat effectively brought us to very shallow and narrow portions of the river. Along the entire coastline, mangrove trees provided the protection needed for many birds, and food for manatees. In this wider section of the winding river, several manatees were seen coming up for a breath of air. Two of the four of us on the boat were interested in photographing, and the boat captain was very obliging.
