Sedona, Arizona, USA. Despite the arid atmosphere, the national forest surrounding Sedona is quite lush, in part due to the proximity to aquifer-fed Oak Creek, and to the fact that I was there in 'monsoon season' (July and August when a strong afternoon thunderstorm may likely occur). The red rocks are beautiful any time of the year. In the center is Bell Rock (locals snakily call it 'turd rock'). To the right is Courthouse Rock, to the left Cathedral Rock. None of these are mountains, as the land settled around them, their tops being the original land surface of the region.

"Red Fortresses" built by nature and further protected by a thick jungle - that is what this looks like Thad. Well composed and clear shot.

So beautiful, this is one place I would love to visit, but the distance between here and there, keeps me from going. Maybe one day, but I sure can enjoy your images. tigs=^..^=

Many years ago, I made the drive from Phoenix to Sedona. I did not have a camera with me back then and cells phone were only used for phone calls. But what a beautiful and photogenic world is Arizona. For decades I subscribed to Arizona Highways, a great magazine filled with beautiful pictures of the state. I thought one day I would retire there but I now think that will not be. Your picture captures a scene from my wistful and wishful memory.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
