Now ... this is a welcome sight.
Beautiful orchid and such vibrant colours. Nice detail and good clarity. Literally fills your screen with it's richness. Background contrasts and sets this one off nicely too. Good capture.
If I may suggest ... next time if you can, upload to the larger sizes and resolutions. Would love to see this image in all its' glory as it so well deserves. :o)
My one caveat? Perhaps ... and this is only a suggestion ... an off center placement? Thinking of the rules of composition here. No biggie really.

What a lovely first desktop image! Nice clarity and the orchids colors are stunning. The texture looks so soft and velvety. Funny how it looks like it has a little face :) Look forward to seeing more from you....

Thank you all for the comments! I was really enjoying playing with the digital camera. I've been interested in photography for a while, but don't have a camera of my own. I'll be getting one soon, but for now, I was using my mum's. You're right about it being off-centre, purmusic, I'll pay more attention to that next time. And all of the orchids were beautiful, I wish more of the pictures turned out so I could share them.
