I really like how you composed your photo here. And the lighting quality you captured is intriguing. Subdued, and well suited to the subject matter I feel.
Caveats.
Hint more contrast to deepen the colour contrasts and more so, in my humble opinion ... to deepen the blacks in the background. Might kick up the depth a tad.
It might be that some caffeine is in order on my side as well. I really can't tell how much post processing you did here. That's a good good thing.
Hand held shot?
That aside, might have been tempted ... and given the apparent quality (took it up to the largest resolution size for a look see) ... to sharpen this one a bit. Just a bit. Nothing drastic.
The sharpening technique referred to above can be performed in Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. Not sure what you have available at your disposal in terms of image editing resources/software.
That said ... go here for Photofiltre. Freeware version available that is used quite widely by many members on the site here.
While not as exhaustive as the two previously mentioned it is a good program.
Very nice image. Typically, or generally ... a central placement of subject would bring cries of 'how dare you not abide by compositional rules?' However, lowering the central portion of the sunflower vertically, with a slight offset as you have done ... does provide some nice visual dynamics.
The overall composition works well.
And but of course thank you for sharing this one with us. It is a good image.
EDIT: Just caught this on your profile page:
"Equip: Canon XSI and 18-55 mm IS also have a 75-300 lens."
Pay the person behind the drivel above (*points in mirror*) ... no mind.
This was shot hand held and I used Elements lighting rendering to make the flower pop out at ya! I do use ACDSEE sometimes as well. Thanks for your compliments everyone! And especially to you Les!
