Nice framing using the bird's coloring. I'd mention the focusing problem but I think that point has been sufficiently covered in previous comments.

Mike, if your lens was at it's full zoom, that might be why you only got "flat", full zoom foreshortens distance usually, makes things seem closer together (front to back) than they actually are.
