i'm still trying to get good pictures with this technique. it seems to be best with gray or blue birds. let me know what you think ok?

I think this is perfect Mike! If its chalklike quality you were looking for you surely got it in this one! Beautiful!

This is your best yet! I think the "chalk" technicque works best with gray or blue birds because the misty, whitish overlay on the background will turn all the colors to the cool side of the spectrum....i.e., the greens look more blue than yellow, etc. This bird is in good focus and you framed it perfectly.

Been looking through your gallery Mike ... spotted what you call the "chalk" posts. Really found them to be attractive. I think this one of the Jay is the best in my opinion. The chalk affect is soft and looks very much like a drawing and makes for a pleasing image. The very largest sizes do amplify the softness to the point of an annoying blur. Not sure what to advise you ... because I REALLY do like these in their smaller screen sizes.
