Two of them actually. The small one is about average in size, but the big one is really quite huge. I didn't measure it, but I'd say it was more than 30cm tall. One of the biggest I've ever seen...

You should park a school bus next to the big one so that we can get a feel for just how HUGE it is ... unless the school bus wouldn't be seen

I tried to but there were legal issues. Apparently if the mushroom fell on the bus and crushed it, the insurance company wouldn't pay. So I had to settle on a photo with no bus...

King bolete (Boletus edulis), I think, one of the tastiest as well as biggest mushrooms. Find one, you've got a meal. Or a great picture!

Yes DesertDenizen is correct these mushrooms are Boletus Edulus or otherwise known as Cep in France or Porcinni in Italy. Very tasty and prized amongst mushroom pickers such as my brother who in a wood in France found an area covered with Boletus Edulus and we counted about 130 of them!!! what an achivement sadly many of them got attacked by maggots as thes mushrooms tend to do and many went mouldy and inedible because there were so many and that we were only on holiday in a house near the forest for about 1 week so there wasn't enough time to eat them all, shame. Since then we have not found anywhere as many and this will probably be the case for many years to come. Great pic!!
