I don't know much about flowers so I can't tell you what this is. Comments and suggestions are appreciated as I have little experience photographing flowers. Thank you.

Hi, Doug...

Join the club. I try to submit one flower shot a week. I've learned the following from my Caedes friends who take many flower photos: The flower children like a short depth of field so that the entire flower is in perfect focus. The background is supposed to be dark and blurry so that the flower "pops". The flower not only should be well focused, the focus must be sharp as a tack.

To me this looks like a very good flower photo. To my flower children Caedes friends, they would say that the background is not dark or blurred; so the bloom does not "pop". The flower is in focus, but so is the background. For some reason this is a bad thing. The bloom is well focused but not perfectly focused. Have you ever seen a close up of the innards of a flower and you say to yourself "Holy ^%$*, that's amazing"? That's the kind of focus that makes a perfect flower shot. I have not yet come close to achieving anything remotely close to perfection. I fact, I submitted one flower photo last month that was in focus, and a Caedes friend's comment was "I can't believe you took the picture". So I'm the last person who should be critiquing flower shots.

Good luck,

Roger

I like this flower!! Its pretty cool...however I agree with some of what palral is saying about the background, focus, "popping", but overall a nice photo.

Focus, schmocus... I like the colors in this shot and since part of the background is blurry and the flower is centered and pretty, you have a great picture! Keep shooting and keep posting. I look forward to seeing more from you.

I agree with BosNana (Madeline) Focus is fine. Maybe cropping out some of the background?. "BUT" it's up to the artist! Keep'em coming.

Very nice image, Doug. A touch of Sharpen wouldn't hurt, and tight cropping from the top, right and bottom borders, about half way (or more) to the nearest petals will produce significantly more impact.
The flower is beautiful. The rest is complimentary, except when there's too much .
