While I like this scene, that first post is in the wrong place if I were to follow basic rules of photography. If I crop 1/3 from the right side, that moves the post, but I lose depth and a portion of the mountains. I'd appreciate your suggestions. This is up in the Italian Dolomites. Thanks for looking. Doug.

Doug I downloaded it and played around with cropping. I felt a good balance was achieved by cropping the left side back at the 7th pole and taking 1/3 off vertically divided between the top and the bottom. This area sure makes for a beautiful shot.

Doug, this is very nice, your camera settings were spot on. I read Kathy's suggestion, and think she gave some good advice. How about trying what she suggested, and maybe sharing it with us for comparison. Tigs♥ =^..^=

A small slice off the Left side. A large slice off the sky, or to just above the electric wire along the right border, and a small slice from the bottom border.
The sky makes the big difference, and removing that much of it substantially increases the impact of the mountains. This is what your long, leading foreground was meant to do.
The sky will always be infinite, and regardless of it's beauty, unless the sky is the prime subject, everything else takes precedence, and a minimal slice of sky is the icing on the cake.

I might 'have a go' at this one..see what my devilish mind can come up with! .. lol

I just adore this scene Doug!..it does both depth and detail!

yes, that post is the prime viewpoint in this! .. but it can be made to work!...

Dear Doug,
You got my favourite experts giving you their best advice. I would follow them, but in my own way. I am not using any sophisticated terminology and would simply say: do not crop any left - by no means ! Then the bottom crop is a must for me and this would be the bigger crop of them both as another crop [much smaller] is the sky.
I will also download the image and play with it for sure ! LOL
My advice is as follows: make several versions and let us compare - email or what. I love brainstorming.
All right, now back to work, I am really busy !
Will be back when I am very tired with my translation though.

It is a fine scene and well taken :)
Cropping at bottom up to the base of the nearest post and the same amount from the sky works for me and takes me further into the picture:)

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

This is a terrific scene Doug; you have received a lot of great suggestions. If I may add one more to them it would be to clone out that vapor trail from the jet in the sky.
Very nice landscape by the way.
