Blacksmith Plover -Occurs commonly from Kenya, through central Tanzania to southern and south western Africa. The vernacular name derives from the repeated metallic 'tink, tink, tink' alarm call. Occurs in association with wetlands. Even very small damp areas caused by a spilling water trough may however attract them. In South Africa it is most common in mesic grasslands, less so in higher rainfall grasslands. The species reacts aggressively to others that may enter its wetland habitat. It breeds in spring, but its choice of nesting site or timing may be opportunistic. The young separate from their parents gradually and don't return to natal areas afterwards.

Another wonderful image Marietha! I love the way you have selected a portion of the photograph and changed the contrast of the rest - very artistic!

You are a walking encyclopedia. Very interesting and informative narrative. And the breakup of the composition into two pictures is superb. Now see, I don't know how to do that, but you do. The grasses in the left photo are captured so clearly and accurately in color and texture, I could reach out and touch them. That's a beautiful black and white bird. I love it's reflection in the water as well. Very well done, Marietha.
