Mary waits and watches over the house and grounds that lie before her. I took this picture while working on a Katrina Relief Trip. The house this statue sits behind has been vacant since the storm and no one has been in the garden since. She sits and waits for someone to come back. I discovered this statue in the backyard, but could not get a good picture of her, until I was getting ready to leave and I turned around and there was the perfect picture I wanted.

Very beautiful, yet sad all the same: no one's been back.

What a sentimental piece...it has so much meaning, symbolically as well. Beautiful capture.

Your composition in this image is good. The statue stands on the right-hand 1/3 point facing into the frame - towards the person who will approach to pray. The foreground bushes help to provide depth of field which is important in this image. It seems that you shot this on an overcast day though, and that means the light is really flat. As a New Orleanean I can say that I feel your pain though, because it's cloudy a lot here. Likewise I want to thank you for coming here and helping out. We're pulling ourselves out slowly, but as you know we still have a long way to go.

I find this image very poignant, with your narrative. Thanks for posting it.
