Had an opportunity to attend the 2008 New York State Fair in Syracuse recently. Took this shot while doing so. It required little if any effort, even less expertise on my part to capture this "Bird". I post this to show how amazingly talented some artists/craftsmen can be. This is NOT a "Bird" ... It is NOT the work of a taxidermist. Those are NOT feathers ... This is a wood carving entered in the arts and crafts portion of the Fair. My jaw dropped when I first saw this in the display case ... and it fell off completely when I found out what I really was looking at. Were you fooled as I was ... by this masterful display of wood carving ? BTW ... I'm not sure ... but this was NOT awarded 1st prize as I recall. Unbelievable ... isn't it ?

A wonderful piece of artwork and yes, I was quite fooled. Even the colors are so real. I think the glass eyes helped add to the live looking presence. Nice find and thanks for letting us see this too, John. It's good to see you as well. :)

Hello John...how good it is to know you've been here and did a posting, and a very realistic one at that!! I looked at those "feet" and wow, I would have sworn it was a read bird!! Oh, to be able to carve wood like that, what a wonderful gift. I'm so very glad you took this photo, it's unique and very interesting to just sit and ponder on. "welcome back John"...verena

Nice shot John.

Good composition.

A bit contrasty, however, a minor caveat at best.

Insofar as the artistry depicted? Wonderful woodwork and craftmanship displayed. And that ... is an understatement.

Nice to 'see' you again. I trust that my words here find you and yours doing well. :o)
