Wonderful closeup, Ed. I think it's a Monarch too. I didn't see too many of these this summer. I hope they return in greater numbers this coming year.

I agree with everyone else that it does look like a Monarch.
We have them in California. They gather in huge clusters in
the Moro Bay area of the central coast. Hundreds in one clump.
