Taken at Misquamicut Beach, RI. A very peaceful image of what the beach can be like.

Ahhh...Life on the Eastern Seashore! I'll bet it's less crowded (and/or commercialized) up there than down here in Jersey! (LOL)

nice scene- umbrella adds a splash of color and draws attention to the center.

Hey Helen,

You have done a number of things right and well with your image here. First and foremost, the composition is quite good.

The actual horizon is placed in the top thirds and the couple/umbrella is at the juncture of the bottom and right hand side intersection of the dividing 'lines '... this said in reference to and abiding by the infamous 'rule of thirds' for composition.

Pleasantly and well-balanced to sum it up. :o)

Caveats? I would respectfully disagree with paramedyc on the aspect of contrast. Think you need some more 'black' in this one, if you understand me here ... or simply, some additional contrast. I can certainly appreciate the lighting conditions that you shot this one under.

If I may, and I can't quite recall if I made mention of this software to you before, and/or what you have currently in your toolset in terms of image editing programs ... that said ... have a look at Photofiltre.

Tutorials available on the site. And it is an extremely user-friendly program from what I have heard and widely used by a number of members on the site here. And it's ... free for use. :o)

Good presenation ... the portrait format suits this one well, an apt executive decision on your part.

So ... a little time to familiarize yourself with some new tools and I think you could definitely kick this one up a notch or two.

Thanks for sharing a look at warmer and tranquil days during 'our' winter. Some visual respite for me, if you will. :o)

I really like how you seem to lean towards soft pastels in your photos. It's a bit different, and with this photo, how can one not love this? I know I'd like to be there, we have a gorgeous beach here not far from us...at the Pacific Ocean..so the feeling your photo gives is just wonderful. Verena

I love the beach and ocean, Helen. This view projects all I want in a day at the beach. Perfect soft sand and endless blue water. I do love that colorful umbrella too!

I need to catch up on things so can't comment too much. But I love all of your fine images :)
