As we drove into this little area, pretty far from the river, my excitement and fascination turned into guilt. I wept as I watched people prepare for the very first catastrophic event of their lifetime. I didn't realize the severity of the situation until I saw it unfolding before my eyes. I was sad, but enlightened at how these people became one machine and helped fill and stack sandbags around eachothers houses. I am a nature freak, I love weather, and everything that has to do with it but I had never had these things hit so close to home before. Keep the ohio valley in your thoughts as this unfolds. I'm sure some of you are probably living this too. I do not live in the flood zone, but my heart goes out to those that do. This little epiphany today has inspired me to go bag up some houses tomorrow. =) I'm not usually one to write stuff like this but I had to share it with someone.

Sounds like you have a big heart Nessa and are just now finding it out. It seems the earth is having one catastrophe after another. Maybe we need to change or ways.

Yes and most companies won't insure if you live on a flood plain..I'm so glad i live on a hill..Our city of York is on a flood plain,It's called the vale of York.Every so often they get it bad...R.

My families house was flooded back in the 50's before they built a flood wall here. Luckily, it was just the basement, but my grand parents weren't as lucky. I hope things work out for these folks. Thanks for sharing, Nessa.

It's a shame that people get flooded out Nessa, but houses don't really belong on floodplains, wouldn't it be nice if the floodplains were just left to nature ?

It's hard to watch your neighbors fight such a mighty force to protect their belongings from destruction. I kinda agree with gonedigital about building in floodprone areas - but sometimes the reasons for the choices we make outweigh the possible consequences. God bless and protect our neighbors. This capture speaks a thousand words. Good job Nessa.

A nice tribute to the hard working and untied people who are trying to protect what is theirs. It's times like this that we realize that we can and still do help each other out.
