I like the effect you got by using the shallow depth of field to isolate and promote your subject. The jacob's ladder in the top background looks neat too. It might be a tiny bit overexposed, but what do I know?

I agree that cropping will bring out your subject. Try not to center the main subject to let the visual flow better. Maybe if the photo was rotated to bring in the buds in the blurred background, your photo may have more appeal.
