This is the ruined beach at Happisburgh in Norfolk. The sea defences have been overcome and the coast, with its buildings, is crumbling into the sea.

Looks like a scene right out of "The Longest Day." I really like it. Has that stark look of reality. No sugar coating, this is the way it is. Outstanding post Nigel.

I agree with Tick. It looks like it could be Omaha Beach at Normandy. I like the way you presented this in B&W. Great sky. All around great picture.

Love this! Nature destroying nature.. You've captured such a poigniant mood in this shot. Having it in black and white only adds to its effect..well done! :-)

The black and white work so wonderfully here. And, yes, it does look like the beach defences used at Normandy.

composition is excellent Nigel and the b&w works brilliantly - just a slight slope on the horizon! I know I am a pain always pointing that out, but the photograph is still excellent, so hope I get away with it! lol!

Tick is right when he says it looks like a scene from The Longest Day. I expect to see Robert Mitchum striding up the beach biting a large cigar. A great atmospheric shot.

love it, black and white works really well for this, your take on my beach (hahah) is excellent, love the lines, and the sea defences are very broken there, all the houses have fallen off the cliffs now im sure you noticed when you were there even the ramp from the top of the cliff to the sea is broken too and you cant get down there no more! i have to fave this one! :-)

A terrific B&W. I can almost smell the salty air and feel the mist on my face. Well done.

I would like to see this a bit sharper, but the image is wonderful!! A very good eye in composing the shot, shall I say "vintage Nigel"?

It's a beautiful and bleak composition. I love the B&W. The horizon line is a bit tilting however. Lovely image. :)

Just goes to show that even on a grey day and scene of desuetude, there's still very strong photographic interest possible: beautifully captured here. You've managed to catch a lot of light on the sea foam and it lifts the shot very well.

Nigel, the title of this picture says it all. I love the use of B&W here, something I want to experiment with more. Just one thing though, had you had one JD's too many when you took it??? The horizon is a tad wonky!!! Or is it ME that's had one too many??? lol Either way, great post, love the moody sad atmosphere in this picture.

The sea has a way of taking what it wants. This is a lonely photo, and an area to take a quiet walk by. Your photos are amazing. I love being able to tour thru them. I'm taking the day off and I'm enjoying your gallery very much. Verena
