The title refers to me not him. I'm always amazed by the way unusual things happen to you when you're out very early in the morning. I was this morning and I met the man who flies hawks to scare the pigeons at St Paul's. Needless to say, this is the hawk. I guess he's an opportunist too - apparently he gets a pigeon every now and then when his trainer's back is turned. I accidentally uploaded two versions of this shot and had to delete one - apologies to those who left comments on both.

Well, he'd scare me if he came swooping down! A great shot of a great looking 'working' bird.

From this angle, it doesn't look as serious, just a little perplexed. Nice shot, again, Nigel.

What a hansome fella and a fine take of him too! Wow, that's really interesting, I never would have considered that kind of job even existed! Glad you're such an early riser Nigel :) (That would also explain the good light and lack of people in several of your other shots) Really like the DOF on this shot, well done Nigel :)

Excellent Sir Nigel and I always heard the "early hawk always get the pigeon." Something like that anyway. This is really an excellent post and it is so clear. I wondered about your politics, now I know. Have a good day.

I waited for one to go before commenting Nigel - both were good too! This hawk seems intent on catching the early bird - you can totally see the why people often use the expression 'Hawk eye' when you look at this bird - excellent capture!
