This is the Belle Tout lighthouse between Birling Gap and Beachy Head in Sussex. It's really a work in progress - there's a lot about it I'm not happy with, but it will take another visit and more shots to get right. So this is my version of it, for now.

I love the light in this - golden and gorgeous! And I like the way you put the lighthouse off in the distance. It allows us to see the light shining on it from the clouds.

Maybe selecting the foreground and lightening with levels?...

either that or a crop, taking it out!...

A wondrous capture detail and composition is fabulous!

Well, your composition is on the money. All those sweeping curves against the strong line of the horizon are wonderful. I'm not sure what time of day you shot this, but a change in the natural lighting might suit whatever it is you'd like to change. This is a very impressive image well worth multiple attempts to bring it to your satisfaction.

The sunlight shining on the lighthouse is inspired. It is as though a spot-light has been turned on. I love the contrast between the foreground and the background and the various curves(the cliff, the path and the road) against the straight horizon. I also like the car and the people by the cliff's edge as they give scale to the scene. The only bit that feels wrong is the top right where the sun is breaking through the clouds and there's too much glare for me.

Is this the light house that's been moved away from the cliff's edge?

Very dramatic shot, the dark cloudy skies really add to the overall image. The dark foreground contrasts the yellow field around the lighthouse too, very good photo.

As soon as I saw this, I thought of the movie, "Thelma And Louise". Have you seen it? It ends with these women in a car, who are unable to escape the police and refusing to be captured, drive off the edge of a deep canyon. This is indeed a difficult capture from a compositional standpoint, but I think you did right well. I would keep returning under all kinds of different lighting situations. Each time will be a different picture.

The quality of light is splendid, and combined with the dark clouds you have made a very atmospheric photo out of it. I agree with Bob on the foreground, though. There is just too much dark space. I tried to crop the picture tighter and in my opinion it looks better. In any case it definitely looks a place to visit more than once.

Maybe...just maybe you could crop a little of the dark foreground, but my eye get so set on the golden area and that sky, that I don't even notice the foreground that much. The rays of the sun look like they are focusing all their power on the area around the lighthouse. Wow...this is just plain awewsome, Nigel. I faved it for sure.

What wonderful golden light and an idea of the hugeness of this view is given by the tiny figures and cars. Not the place to take a walk near the edge on a dark night!

I can't think of anything you could do better with this pic. The whole picture is like a journey. There is the brightness at the center of the pic, seeming a climax of that journey, but looking off into the distance, you can see the clouds and storm tossed waters that had to be passed over to get to this end, and closer to the viewer, the almost absolute darkness, seeming the future past the journey, that you can plan and almost see, but it is in reality in shadow.

Sorry. The whole pic just struck me that way from the moment I saw it. Awesome job! Into my favorites! Keep it up!

P.S. if you get a chance, take a look at my gallery. Any comments, criticisms, advice, etc. on any particular pic would be more than welcome. Have an awesome day!
