The Monkey Orchid [Orchis simia] is one of Britain's rarest orchids and is nurtured on a few nature reserves. I've captured here a close up floret rather than the whole plant to show why it is so called - a good name I think you'll agree :)

Fabulous post. I was wondering why the title when I saw the thumbnail and then upon closer examination, I see why the name. How grand a design this is. Beautiful macro capture. The sparkling detail of the bloom is marvelous. Nice work.
