As the largest square rigger in the world, Sedov never fails to impress. She is imposing and majestic with great deck space and large saloons making her great for entertaining at the major maritime festivals. The Sedov has four masts with her mainmast stretching 58 metres into the sky. Built in Kiel, Germany, in 1921 and originally used as a long-distance frieght vessel, the Sedov went through two name changes before being handed over to the USSR as reparation after World War II. Previously known as "Magdalene Vinnen" and "Kommodore Johnson" but was renamed the Sedov after the Polar explorer George Sedov. She worked until 1966 as an oceangraphic vessel and thereafter as a sail training ship for the Russian Ministry of Fishing. Since 1989 she has been open to cadets from the West as well, giving them a unique chance to sail on the world’s largest sailing ship.
