The International Sand Sculptures Festival. It is the only event of its kind in the Iberian peninsula and given its dimensions is the largest in the world. Each year the festival is dedicated to a different theme. It occupies an area of 15,000 square metres and showcases the skilful and intricate work of artists of various nationalities. In preparation for the festival the artists shape over 35,000 tons of sand during a one month period! I put this picture because it is very expressive for me: - This sculpture shows the artist's representation of The Industrial revolution. It starts with a textile industry worker using the spinning mill and develops into the mechanical production process; the shirts fill up the money bags that stand along the champagne drinking industrials, surronded by the factory chemneys. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries major changes ocurred in agriculture, manufacturing, mining and transportation, they had a profund effect on the socioeconomic and cultural conditions in Europe. The factory system was largely responsible for the rise of the modern city, as large numbers of workers migrated into the cities in search of employment in the factories. Living conditions during the industrial revolution varied from the splendor of the homes of the owners to the squalor of the lives of the workers
