Southwest of Serra da Estrela is one of the country's most picturesque rural villages, the striking village of PIODÃO. Once remote, tourism has brought it somewhat back to life. The schist houses have been restored, with their darkness contrasting wonderfully with the bright white parish church and blue doors and windows.
